Art therapy is one of the many tools I offer to help my clients make meaningful changes in their lives. It is not for everyone but it is something that I offer to interested clients. Art therapy is an established mental health profession that uses the creative process of art making and the art product to improve and enhance the physical, mental, and emotional well-being of individuals of all ages. Art therapy has many benefits including:
- Increases self-expression and communication
- helps to reduce anxiety
- promotes self-esteem
- fosters self-awareness
- increases independent problem-solving skills
- creates a sense of empowerment
Even if art therapy is not used in the session, I encourage my clients to use art or creativity outside of the office to help reach their goals. For example, if you struggle with anxiety, I might suggest that you try making art, knitting, coloring, or singing at home as a way to help reduce the anxiety you feel. There are many other ways to utilize your creativity to help reduce your negative feelings or make changes in your life.
